The Nature of Intimacy explores connection and isolation through sound. The piece is activated through intimate concerts in which performer and audience are physically and sonically tethered to the guitar through modified stethoscopes. Rather than sound being broadcast throughout the room for everyone to hear together, as the musician plays the stethoscopes siphon it to each listener separately. The tone varies depending on where the stethoscope is placed. Despite listening to the same piece of music everyone hears something different.
